QUICK ANSWER
What buyers need to specify first
Custom gift boxes are branded presentation packages developed for a specific product, set or occasion. They may use folding paperboard, corrugated mailer, rigid lid-and-base, drawer or magnetic structures; the correct choice depends on product weight, opening experience, quantity, storage and delivery route.
When to consider another format: A gift presentation box is not automatically a shipping box. If the package will enter a parcel network, its corrugated construction, cushioning or protective outer shipper should be planned and tested separately.
COMPARE THE PRODUCT SYSTEM
Three gift-box structure families
Start with the product, packing job and delivery route. Then select the structure, material and opening experience.
SHOP BY APPLICATION
Custom Gift Boxes by Industry
Compare custom gift packaging by product category, protection needs and presentation goals. Product weight, fragility, assortment layout and delivery route determine the most appropriate box structure, insert and material system.
Not sure which category fits? Start with product dimensions, weight, fragility, sales channel and delivery route. The structure and insert should follow the packed product—not the industry label alone.

APPROVE THE PHYSICAL SYSTEM
Choose the structure before the decoration.
Approve the packed experience from master carton to product removal. Check assembly time, product order, insert access, closure, scuffing, gift-message placement and delivery condition. For multiple products or changing assortments, test every intended configuration rather than assuming one insert fits all.
- Verify dimensions: use the actual product and realistic tolerances.
- Approve handling: check assembly, loading, opening and removal.
- Record the standard: retain a signed sample and packing method.
Make four decisions before artwork
Structure
Select folding, corrugated or rigid construction according to product weight, order volume, storage limits and shipping exposure.
Materials
Match paperboard grade, corrugated flute, wrap stock and insert material to the required stiffness, print finish and protection.
Print and finish
Use print, foil, embossing and coatings to create a clear hierarchy without compromising folds, edges or product-contact areas.
Approval
Approve a physical packed sample against dimensions, assembly sequence, product removal and master-carton requirements.
A custom gift box with logo can use folding, corrugated or rigid construction. Folding gift boxes support efficient retail runs, corrugated gift mailers suit ecommerce delivery, and rigid gift boxes support premium presentation but add storage and freight cube.

BUYER CHECK
Do not treat a rendering as the production standard.
A rendering cannot confirm product fit, board stiffness, closure force, scuff resistance or how an insert releases the product. Approve a physical sample with the actual contents, then record the construction, finishes and packing sequence.

Questions buyers ask first
Which type of custom gift box is best?
Use a folding carton for light retail sets and efficient storage, a corrugated mailer for shipped gifts, or a rigid format when permanence and premium presentation justify the added cost and volume.
Can gift boxes be supplied flat?
Folding cartons, mailers and collapsible rigid boxes can be supplied flat. Traditional rigid lid-and-base or drawer boxes normally arrive assembled.
Do gift boxes need inserts?
Inserts are useful for sets, fragile products and controlled presentation. A well-sized box may not need an insert when products are already protected or individually packed.
Can one gift box hold several assortments?
It may be possible with modular inserts or adjustable positions, but each assortment must be tested for fit, movement and customer access.
What does a custom gift box manufacturer need for an accurate quote?
Provide product dimensions and weight, target quantity, box style, insert requirements, print and finish specifications, packing method, delivery destination and required schedule. Supply artwork status and reference samples when available.
How should gift box inserts be specified for product sets?
Define every product position, orientation and removal path. The insert should control movement without making products difficult to remove, and the complete packed sample should be tested for the intended distribution route.
