QUICK ANSWER
One box can protect, present and ship.
Custom mailer boxes are one-piece corrugated packages with a hinged lid and locking front panel. They work well for ecommerce, subscriptions and launch kits when the board, internal fit and insert are specified as one packaging system.
Not every product should ship in a mailer alone. Heavy, liquid or highly fragile items may need stronger cushioning or a protective outer carton.
CHOOSE THE OPENING EXPERIENCE
Three practical mailer configurations
Compare the opening, return and insert experience before choosing print and finish.

BUILD FROM THE PRODUCT OUTWARD
Fit comes before graphics.
Measure the actual product at its maximum dimensions, including caps, labels and protective bags. Define the insert next; the box’s usable internal size comes last.
- Control movement: secure products without making packing difficult.
- Protect vulnerable areas: do not transmit impact directly through the outer wall.
- Make removal easy: add practical finger access and test real tolerances.
Make four decisions before artwork
For buyers comparing custom corrugated mailer boxes, printed mailer boxes for ecommerce and mailer boxes with inserts, these four decisions should be confirmed before artwork begins.
Board performance
Share packed weight, dimensions and shipping route. Flute name alone does not define strength.
Surface color
Natural kraft creates a warmer base; white liners support brighter color reproduction.
Print method
Digital, flexographic and litho-laminated print suit different quantities and detail levels.
Inside experience
Use interior print or a fitted insert only when it improves information, protection or reveal.

BUYER CHECK
Should this box ship directly?
Do not decide from appearance alone. Pack the real product, check movement and vulnerable edges, then test the complete unit for its intended route. Fragile or high-value goods may still need an outer shipper.

Questions buyers ask first
Can a custom mailer box ship without an outer carton?
Often yes for suitable products after the complete packed unit is evaluated. Fragile, heavy, liquid or high-value products may need additional protection.
Which corrugated flute should I choose?
E-flute is a common starting point for compact printed mailers, while B-flute may suit larger or more demanding packs. Final selection should use weight, dimensions and route.
Can the inside of the box be printed?
Yes. Interior print can add instructions or create a reveal, but it adds artwork and approval work, so it should support a clear purpose.
How should I provide dimensions?
Use usable internal length × width × depth and include the insert plus realistic product tolerances. See the box dimensions guide.
